our first and last stop was amsterdam. we spent a total of about a week here. after leaving, we went to see kelly's old cycling partner, who's now living in karlsruhe.

kelly was amazed by the high-tech phones and the ultra-smooth, quiet, fast, cheap commuter trains. he'll never look at CalTrain the same again! airport to hotel in 25 minutes for about $4 per person!

a'dam is like SF in that every time you turn around there's another postcard-like view screaming to be photographed.

my train-nerd side was in 7th heaven!! imagine if most major muni stops OUTSIDE the tunnel had readerboards with train ETAs on them...

at the homomonument - aa public monument to the gay and lesbian fight against oppression

kelly succumbed to the "when in rome" complex and had his first-ever cup of coffee!

we had just bought our new golf right before we left for europe, so i was happy to see (and hear) all of the amsterdam police cars, which are identical twins with our car back home.

kelly checking our email at an internet coffeeshop. surf the web and smoke dope -- woo hoo!

speaking of dope--- i figured my teammates would appreciate this place. ironic that the picture is out of focus, isn't it?

the preferred transportation method in amsterdam -- bikes. but to truly be an amsterdammer, you have to wear nice work clothes, talk on the phone, hold an umbrella over your head, have someone riding on the back, and be walking your dog all while riding your bike.
