when I mention the bagel ranch, people understandably ask me, "what the hell is the bagel ranch?" that is difficult to explain. the name comes from an answering machine greeting one of the original occupants (jenny strauss) made. it went something like "you've reached the bagel ranch! we're out russling up some cream cheese ... leave a message!" the name stuck. the ranch is an old oyster factory on totten inlet, near shelton. it has always been occupied by artisans: painters, animators, musicians, theatre arts producers and media producers.
there is something magical about this place. a lot of really cool people have lived there, and left their coolness stayed behind. the walls, floors, ceilings, and doors are marked with art. the surroundings inspire you to make beautiful things. the parties were naturally fabulous. tod quickly found the ranch to be a home away from home. He loved the swing there, and the stuff he could make there.
