Brandenburg gate and the view toward Potsdamer platz. Notice the 8 zillion cranes on the skyline. The former center of Berlin, which was split in half by the wall, is now being transformed into this big corporate shopping monstrosity. it's supposedly the largest construction project in the whole world.

In the middle of this giant construction project, they have this big red "infobox" with construction info in 3 languages. It also goes well with Kelly's red jacket, red coke can, and red currywurst.

Inside the infobox, they had a lot of info on the new transrapid line, a magnetically-levitated train that will travel 310mph+ between Berlin and Hamburg. cool! [the project was cancelled in October 2000 :( ]

Berlin has a lot of subways. Some old and crufty as dirt, others new and spiffy. The latest innovation: new upholstery that looks like it's already been graffiti'd to the point that putting any on it would be unreadable anyways.

Brian in front of the Reighstag. Notice the huge line of people waiting to get in. We gave up.

A couple of subway stops away is what remains of checkpoint charlie, and the associated museum. It's all rather haphazardly assembled, but it documents the many escapes from East Germany in four languages very well.

The Fersehturm - mega-monument to soviet technology. It sits in the middle of Alexander platz, the town square of former East Berlin.
