What do you do in Berlin on a rainy Sunday when nothing is open? LEAVE! We happen to have an extra day on our railpass, so we hopped a train to Dresden in the morning. We were unprepared for the beauty we found. An the modern Soviet archetecture was pretty cool too.

Uhh... where are we going?

Oh yah...Dresden central station. Red star -> Coca-Cola.

What do you do with a tiny, little soviet apartment building? How about make it into a four-million-room Hotel Ibis.

Here, soviet "we the happy workers" mosiac mural meets western meat (and a little tagging, too).

<<< Geez, and I thought Seattle city hall was ugly. Love that Soviet "honeycomb" building style.

>>> Okay, we made it past the modern downtown area. Just behin all the new buildings is old Dresden, full of castles, museums, and all things made of 500-year-old brick. Here's a local church. You can see little people standing on the golden balcony; unfortunately we didn't have time to make the climb up.

Castle courtyard...

... castle back alley.

It's not the reighstag, but it's almost as beautiful. Like most other historic buildings in the city, it too, is going through major rennovations.

>>> Brian imitating the soviet "don't walk" sign. Take my word for it, the red blob looks just like Brian.

While in Dresden, we had to go try out the Schwebahn,
one of those wacky trams that goes up the side of a hill.
Check it out.

Then it was back to Berlin. Cozy first class car, nice and quiet,
just us. If only all our train travel had been like this!
