One of the biggest hits to come to the castro theatre in some time is the new sound of music sing-along. They've had 16 sold-out shows @ 1500 people each. You dress up in costume, go to the movie, get some coaching on who to cheer for, boo for, kiss for, etc. Each person in the audience gets back of props including curtain fabric, adelweiss, an invite to the captian's ball. From there on out, it's basically rocky horror picture show with singing. I went with Jordan, and we had a blast!
All musical numbers had subtitles. The singing quality at the theatre is better than at church. Jordan and I were appropriately off-key.
The pre-show costume contest included a number of nuns, austrian citizens, and people dressed as a few of my favoriate things. Notice how close the MC's costume is to the one in the picture on the left.

The winners of the costume contest, the "warm wooly mittens." Each had one hand in the "thumb" of their mitten, and when they won, they did this cool little high-five thing where the thumbs met.
